Witha globalised society and changing dynamics, it has become apparentlyclear that the society needs to adopt approaches in their dailyengagements. Globalization has brought about new approaches invirtually all spheres of life. Education fraternity has not been leftbehind in this trend. In the education sector, institutions areengaging in exchange programs where students from other nations arehosted to undergo studies for a given period. International educationis gaining popularity in most parts of the world. Educationalstakeholders in many nations are promoting the trend to enhanceshared experiences, culture, and values, among the students. Exchangeprograms helps in promoting diversity among the students and othereducational stakeholders. In the essay, I seek to examine thesignificance of international education towards promoting diversity,co-existence and cohesion in the contemporary society. The programhas great contribution in enhancing deeper understanding on theglobal issues, especially in the current globalised society.

ThesisStatement: Studyabroad programsare instrumental in promoting skills development, diversity, andsharing of experiences among the students.

Significanceof the Study

Thestudy is essential to both the students and educationaladministrators. Inthe US, both colleges and universities have sought to createawareness among their students about global issues. Understanding theglobal issues requires learners to engage in range of study programsthat will them travel and learn in different parts of the world.moreover, the study will provide important information to thepolicy-makers on approaches to enhance study abroad programs. It alsothe great importance of international education in promotingdiversity, co-existence, and knowledge sharing.

Discussion

Accordingto Heffron&amp Maresco (2014), students are exposed to more opportunties andthe capacity to learn from other settings. The international studentsexhibit more confidence, competence, and adaptability afterundertaking their studies. Besides personal gains, Heffron &ampMaresco (2014) notes the students gain assertiveness towardspromoting diversity among their community. The study abroadexperiences open the world to the students who gain a differentoutlook regarding other cultural norms and values. As such, most ofthe institutions have adopted international experiences through studyabroad program as part of their curriculum (Rader, 2014). Variousresearch studies indicate that student engagement through the studyabroadprogram offers many opportunities to enhance deep learning andco-existence (Sealey &amp Hathorn, 2014).

Moreover,international students are one of the agents of global citizenship.Learning institutions have established centers in differentcountries. The trend has greatly contributed to interactions betweenstudents from different origins (Mullens&amp Cuper, 2012),(Rhoads&amp Szelényi, 2011).Looking at the above discussion, the importance of studyabroad programs inpromoting diversity in the society is something that the institutionsand stakeholders need to take up seriously. Hackney,et al (2013) highlight the need for the educational administratorsincluding dean of students and the program’s office to developappropriate structures and policies on studyabroad program.It is instrumental in the establishment of commonnorms and practices hence eliminate the constant diversity standards(Cressey,2004).

Thequestions are quite vast and several scholars have tried to ascertainthe real impact of studying abroad. Researchers are continuouslytrying to find out why people opt to move from their country of birthto seek education elsewhere.
