Part2: Interview Analysis

Inorder to enhance my objectivity in the interview, I chose tointerview my friend who lives in another neighborhood. This selectionwas intentional because we are not so fond of each other. He is athirty four year old man who married recently and is a father of onechild. He is an African American who is a very devoted Christian. Ivisited him during lunch hour of his lunch break at work, for theinterview only, and we were not to talk a lot of other things.

Theentire interview went on well, but the part of explaining hisrelationship with God went well the most. He seemed more free andrelaxed to answer. However, in the future, I would conduct aninterview in a neutral ground, not at home or near work. This isbecause we had to find a quite board room for the interview. Therefore, the only challenge that we faced is that his time wasstrictly scheduled and we could not discuss extensive topics aboutthe issue of spirituality. However, in the future, I would requestthe respondent to have more time.

Thespiritual experience with my friend was very insightful because Irealized the meaning that people and patients attach to spirituality.I realized that everything that happens in a spiritual person’slife has a spiritual explanation and meaning. I also discovered thatsicknesses tend to amplify the spiritual needs or concern of theinterviewee. According to McSherryand Ross(2010), spiritual people tend to put some importance on the state oftheir health and wellness. Agood example is when my friend was answering the question of whyspiritual people get sick. He tried hard to explain and at one timeconcluded that it is hard to explain the reason. Another example ishow he stated that God is the only healer. This shows the higherspiritual expectations he has, more than on the health care.
