MyPersonal Characters and the Nature and Nurture Concepts

Takingthis class and watching the videos opened me more to understandingmyself. I got an opportunity to identify some of my uniquecharacteristics that I was born with and those perfected by nature. One of my personal characters is being kind. My mother tells me thatI was a very kind person when I was a young girl. Raised in the urbanareas of China, my mother tells me that I was more compassionateabout the problems of others when playing with other girls. I tend tothink that the religious teachings I got as a child also contributedto this character. In this case my nature and nurturing of thesociety played a part in molding me.

Myother unique character is being decisive. I make decisions faster andhold on to them at all times. As long as something is good and worthdoing, I am very decisive on doing the right thing. My father is alsovery decisive, and I am told that his father was both decisive andstrict. However, I think I learnt this in my early school, where Iwas involved in games, especially chess. These games require a lot ofinstant and informed decision making. In this case, I think my naturegot from my father and the nurturing got from the games contributedto my decisiveness.

Oneof the ideas that stood out from the class and the videos is thatlearning is an important aspect of acquiring character. This isbecause the class has opened me to learn, and the videos show theinfluence of the aspects of learning for people. I must say thatlearning in this class, and from the videos have opened me to newways of perceiving the world around me. This has influenced some ofmy traits by making them better and I believe the learning is shapingme for a better future.
