Makinga Nurse Bedside Shift Report

Previousresearch shows that when nurses engage their patients in effectivehealth care, there is a measurable growth and improvement in thequality and safety of the healthcare practices. Moreover, to promotequality and safety in the healthcare and services, agency and strongengagement in any research that concerns patient and family healthand guide, it is paramount to have the right information required. Onthe other hand, it is crucial to test the quality of healthcareservices offered to the patients, give evidence of the resources, andadvocate for quality and safe services to assist the hospitalmanagement in improving the quality of services they offer (Anderson&amp Mangino, 2006). Consequently, this research paper uses aqualitative method to a test the changes that are required forsuccessful communication between a nurse and his or her patients.Secondly, it is paramount to know the information that hindersquality and safety adverse in the healthcare facilities theseinclude issues such as medical errors, lost patent’s records, andlack of patients` satisfaction with the services offered.

Forthese reasons, the use of the qualitative method is essential here. This is because theanalysis of data using qualitative approach is aimed at uncoveringand understanding the broader picture here data is used to describethe various phenomenon and what that data mean to the healthcareenvironment or organization studied. Additionally, Merriam(2002) affirmthat both quantitative and qualitative data analysis includes codingand labeling the data with an aim of obtaining the similarities anddifferences recognizable in the research. However, the qualitativeresearch does not use precoding it employs various methods thatidentify and label data as required in the research are developedalso referred to as content analysis. As a result, there are variousmethodologies that are used in qualitative data analysis such asdeductive and inductive approaches. For these reasons qualitativemethod of data analysis fits the current research.

Onthe other hand, the findings indicate that families’ membersespecially the parents have a role to play and to make sure that anytransition that is passed in the health care quality and safety areeffective and meet the standards required. Consequently, nursebedsides report is essential because it ensures that handoff using inhealth care are safe among the nurses (Anderson&amp Mangino, 2006)this is achieved by the patients and the family members. On the otherhand, according to Caruso(2007),the use of nurse bedside report is useful in the implementation ofnursing handbooks. The nursing handbooks are useful in giving anoverview of the rationale that is used for nurse bedside and givestep by step guidance that help the nurse to strategize andcategorically address the main challenges faced in a hospital.Additionally, according to a research that was done by Nelson&amp Massey (2010),the issue of nurse beside shift implementation offers a clearguideline on what is supposed to be done by nurses to achievedquality services and safety in the healthcare.

Methodology

Asstated earlier, the research uses a qualitative approach to work anddesign the nurse bedsides and shifts involved when making a nursingreport. Consequently, the paper focuses on the history and mainlyexamines patients` baseline that guarantee their satisfaction inhealth care. Secondly, the research reviews the shifts that existswhen carrying out the reporting process and helps in theidentification of potential barriers that hinder movement of thenurse bedside shifts when report. Consequently, it is advisable toredesign the nurse bedside shift that was established in 2009. Theredesigned process is not fit to use in the healthcare because theprocess demand that the nurses should ask the patients many questionsbefore the shift report was carried out. As a result, a qualitativemethod is essential because qualitative data analysis will providedetails and depth analysis on the information provided in thehealthcare. In return, the analysis can be used to rank and count forthe healthcare recordings, nurses` performance, nurses` capability, and patients` attitude and feelings about the nurse bedsidereporting. Secondly, qualitative data analysis helps business tocreate openness in business operations (Hsieh&amp Shannon, 2005).

Onthe other hand, Burns &amp Grove (2010) explains ways that can beused to understand the nursing research using evidence-basedpractices. According to the two authors it is important to focus onconnecting and understanding a nursing research using evidence-basedtheories or practices. The book is crucial because it teaches thestudents on how read, utilize, and critique a given research report.Additionally, there are various steps that should be followed whencarrying out a research process especially when handlingstudent-centered questions encountered during the research.Basically, according to Burns and Grove (2010), the critical analysisshould include how conclusion was reaches, details of the patient theconclusions will apply, why the reason was done, and how the researchwas conducted. As a result, Burns and Grove (2010) affirm that everynursing research should give updates on informatics, role of theresearch, and the shaping policies that were utilized. The currentstudy, therefore, affirm the updates that were given in the articleand give a reflection on the current nursing trends and other issuesthat influence bedside shift reporting. The analysis will bestreamlined to make it easy for the readers to understand the bedsideshift reporting and other nursing practices that are evidence-based.

Conclusion

Fromthe analysis carried out it is evident that effective communicationis very crucial when doing a patient handoff to ensure that there isquality and safety when handling the patients. However, there areseveral barriers and problems that are associated with nursingbedsides reports and handoffs. For this reason, it is important toreview the various types and purpose patients’ health care and theuses of nurse bedsides and handoffs. In conclusion, for all thepatients who are hospitalized, it is important to consider the shifthandoffs that exists between the outgoing and incoming nurses (Burns&amp Grove, 2010) this is included in the bedsides reports.Additionally, it is crucial to include patient`s critical informationsuch as health care plan, medication given, and the last time thepatient was attended (Anderson&amp Mangino, 2006).This means that every nurse’ bedside report should communicateeffectively not only with physicians and nurses but also to thepatient and his or her family members. Consequently, this topic has agrowing interest and gives hope that standard practices should beembraced when making handoffs at the patients’ bedside.
