Conceptsof Time Management Self-Assessment

Fromthe information obtained after self-assessment on time management, itis clear that effective management of time is challenging. Successfulleaders possess efficient time management skills and consider time asa valuable resource. Self-evaluation of time management allows anindividual to evaluate how he or she uses time as a resource (John,2010). Management of time is a complicated procedure andself-evaluation reveals some measures of an individual`s strengthsand weakness. One of the tools for evaluating time management is aquestionnaire that is designed in such a way to identify a person`scurrent time management ability, behaviors, and practices. The use ofthe questionnaire is for personal evaluation, but one can identifyoverlooked strengths and weaknesses by requesting a colleague to ratethem on various items.

Leadershiptheory that best explains my leadership style

Transformationalleadership theory suggests that leaders are people who are to createchanges in individuals and social organizations. The concept ofaltering leadership was first introduced by James MacGregor Burnsback in 1978, who argued that political leaders should have theability to influence and change their followers (Burns, 1978).According to Burns, changing leadership is a process in which theleader and his or her followers assist each other, to enhance theirmotivation and morale. A transformational leader focuses on inspiringand improving the performance of his or her supporters. Mechanismssuch as: aligning the followers` ambitions and self-identity to themission and image of the organization, leading by example andencouraging followers to own and embrace their work. Atransformational leader works hand in hand with the team members andhelps them overcome the obstacles to higher performance. I believe, Iam a Democratic leader, who allows all the team members toparticipate in decision-making to enhance their motivation andperformance. I firmly believe that transformational leadership theorybest describes democratic leadership style.

Comparisonbetween leadership and management

Leadershipis defined as the capacity to convince, inspire and influence people(followers) while management involves controlling a group of people(workers) and directing them towards achieving a common goal (Nayar,2013). From the definitions, it is clear that the main differencebetween leaders and manager is that a leader is the head of a groupof followers and on the other hand, a manager the head of a panel ofsubordinates. Since a leader`s primary focus is to influence people,he is termed as people-oriented while a manger`s main aim is tocontrol people execute tasks, he is termed as task-oriented (Nayar,2013). The principal function of a leader is to lead people while amanager primary responsibility is to manage work. However, it isargued that an effective leader should have efficient managementskills and on the other hand, a successful manager is required tohave effective leadership skills.
