The mission of the agency is work with people have no homes, runawayand children with a history or predisposition of abuse and youthright the time they are born until they attain age 21. The agencybases its missions on the need to create strengths and supportsystems to individual families so that they have successful andstable homes.


Censusstatistics show an average of 3,297 referrals in New Jersey(Christie, 2011). This represents a 34.5% of the total referralsrecorded (Snyder &amp Sickmund, 2006). Public day schools have thehighest reports of 14.6% representing a total of 480 children abused. Residential areas follow with an average of 336 cases reported(10.2% of the total cases reported). Child day care centers came inthird at 9.4%, representing 309 cases reported to authorities. Detention centers came in fourth with 4.8%, representing 157 of theall the cases reported. Others places that had many cases of childabuse are in buss company premises, others programs, group homes,hospital, private day schools, registered family dare care centers,children’s centers, mental health centers, correctional facilities,camps, teaching family homes, after school program centers, religiousday schools, and juvenile family-in-crisis centers. The data alsoreveals the institutional abuse maltreatment as follows: Cases ofneglect were 41.5% of the total, physical abuse 41%, sexual abuse10.2%, multiple types 6.2%, and emotional abuse at 1.1% (Christie,2011).

Organizationalstructure and governance

Thehighest decision making organ for the agency is the trustee boardthat comprises of seven non-executive directors and other six membersthat constitute the executive management board. The board’ssecretary is also the Chief Executive Officer. The secondadministrative organ after trustee board is the Care qualityCommission, which is responsible for the measures and principles thatguide all care initiatives across the world. For New Jersey’sAnchor House agency station, all the care programs for the targetpopulation are designed through the rules and standards alreadyestablished by the Care quality commission. The third administrativeorgan is the Homes and communities Agency (HCA). The HCA isresponsible for the care facilities and programs rolled out in allneighborhoods. They agency facilitates the collection of relevantinformation about child abuse and runaway cases through indulging lawenforcement agencies and government departments. Finally, the CharityCommission is the last administrative agency. It is responsible formobilizing funds from well-wishers in the New Jersey community.

Strengths,Challenges, and Trends


    • Anchor House the requisite support of the New Jersey government.

    • New Jersey is also home to other human services organizations discussed above. The organization shares a lot of information with the organizations in its bid to bolster the effectiveness of its programs.

    • A huge charity base around the world attracts a lot of financial support form different sources.

Challenges-The main challenge of Anchor Inc, NJ is to get volunteers who canstay on for a longer time. Most of them leave after they haveestablished strong bonds with foster children and communities.

Trends-Although the agency deals with abused children and runaway cases, italso has programs for youths that aim to enrich lives. For instance,a youth forum is scheduled on the 22ndof September, 2015 where youths will discuss and engage one anotheron issues of relationships and resources. According to Anchor House’sofficial website, they will focus on creating healthy relationshipsout of dysfunctional relationships.

InternalRole in the agency

Iam a volunteer in the agency. I have participated in differentvolunteer programs in the agency. I began working on single-dayprojects and later moved to certified volunteer duties. I engagedirectly with the youth and children. In some cases, I take part inhuge projects such fundraising and building renovations.
